POINT PLEASANT — It was the party no one wanted to miss, where superheroes, princesses, and tiny monsters reclaimed Main Street after the rain had its turn the week before.

Point Pleasant’s annual Halloween Block Party bounced back from a weather washout with crowds filling the street once again last Monday, proving that one of the city’s favorite fall traditions doesn’t quit easily. With music, free food, costume contests, and more candy than anyone could count, families soaked in the spirit of the autumn season, just a little later than planned.

The Halloween Block Party started nearly 30 years ago and has passed through many hands since, but the tradition remains rooted downtown, open to everyone and free as ever.

“I have to say, it was such an awesome evening seeing our community come together for the Halloween Block Party, even after rescheduling, the turnout was amazing,” Mayor Amber Tatterson told Mason County Extra Edition.

“Big thanks to Rivers Health for the hotdogs, the churches who helped cook and serve, everyone who made fresh popcorn, and all those who handed out candy,” Tatterson said. “Because of you, we are able to keep this a free event for our community!”

Tatterson also recognized businesses “who went all out decorating their areas for the kids, they were fantastic.”

Tatterson also thanked the Point Pleasant Junior/Senior High School Black Knight Band members for their haunted trail, EML for the “spooky music and lights” and “Point Pleasant Live for always showing up.”

Tatterson continued: “And, of course, we can’t forget our Festival & Events Committee and city employees for all their hard work making it happen.”

Former councilman and current member of the Festival & Events Committee, Dylan Handley, has helped put together the block party for a few years now.

“It was a nice evening filled with a sense of community and a positive atmosphere that was free for the kids of our area,” Handley said. “There’s already things that we are looking at adding to or changing for next year to continue to grow it and give people an incentive to come out and enjoy it.”

Like Tatterson, Handley also recognized all those who helped support the Halloween Block Party and that included a long list of “thank yous.” He also gave a specific shoutout to Rivers Health which he said is “always offering to contribute” when it comes to “things we are cooking up for the community.”

Handley added, “It certainly takes a village to put things on and make them a success and despite what mother nature throws at us… It was still a resounding success.”

“This is what community is all about,” Tatterson said. “And, I’m so thankful to be a part of it!’
