More candidates file prior to Saturday’s deadline

POINT PLEASANT — Saturday is the last day for candidates to file for the May primary, with several already throwing their names into their respective races at not only the county level, but for state, district and national offices, as well.

County races

According to Mason County Clerk Diana Cromley, candidates who have filed with her office as of Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 24), appear below. (Editor’s note, races for Magistrate and Board of Education, are nonpartisan.)     

Assessor:

Aimee Duncan (R).

Board of Education:

Meagan Bonecutter, District III.; Rhonda Tennant, District I.

County Commission:

Republican – Tracy Doolittle (R), District II; Christopher Johnson (R), District I; Marshall Ray “Stormy” See (R), District II.

Democrat – Jason R. Schultz, (D), District II.

Magistrate:

To reiterate, candidate filing runs through Jan. 27. Locally, Cromley’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday, Jan. 27. Candidates may also file via a mailed certificate of announcement which must be postmarked before midnight on Jan. 27.

The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office, and its elections information, can be found online at https://apps.sos.wv.gov/.

The primary election in West Virginia is May 14, followed by the general election Nov. 5.
