County Clerk reports candidates filing for offices; Secretary of State’s website updates national, state, district filings

The race(s) is on! First day of candidate filings in West Virginia

POINT PLEASANT — Today was the first day of the candidate filing period in West Virginia, as candidates threw their names into their respective races at not only the county level, but for state, district and national offices, as well.

County races

According to Mason County Clerk Diana Cromley, eight candidates filed with her office on Tuesday, Jan. 8. Those candidates, and the offices which received filings, appear below. (Editor’s note, races for Magistrate and Board of Education, are nonpartisan.)     

Magistrate: Gail Roush, Division 1; Steve Tarbett, Division 1; Melanie Sang, Division 2.

County Commission: Tracy Doolittle (R), District II; Christopher Johnson (R), District I.

Assessor: Aimee Duncan (R).

Sheriff: Corey Miller (R).

Board of Education: Meagan Bonecutter, District III.

National, State and District races

According to the website for West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner, as of Tuesday afternoon, the following were listed as filing their candidacy with his office:

U.S. Senate: Janet McNulty, R-Martinsburg; Alexander X. Mooney, R-Charles Town.

U.S. House of Representatives, Congressional District 1: Chris Bob Reed, R-Charleston.

Governor: Mac Warner, R-Charleston; Stephen Williams, D-Huntington.

Secretary of State: Thornton Cooper, D-South Charleston; Kris Warner, R-Charleston.

Auditor: Eric L. Householder, R-Martinsburg.

Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Division 1: Haley Bunn, Charleston. (Editor’s note: Judicial races are nonpartisan.)

Justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals, Division 2: Charles S. Trump IV, Berkeley Springs. (Editor’s note: Judicial races are nonpartisan.)

State Senate, District 4: Amy Nichole Grady, R-Leon.

House of Delegates, District 18: Jim Butler, R-Gallipolis Ferry.

Circuit Judge, Judicial Circuit 5: Anita Harold Ashley, Spencer; Joshua W. Downey, Spencer; Richard Craig Tatterson, Gallipolis Ferry. (Editor’s note: Judicial races are nonpartisan.)

Candidate filing runs through Jan. 27. If mailed, a certificate of announcement must be postmarked before midnight on Jan. 27.

The West Virginia Secretary of State’s Office can be found online at https://apps.sos.wv.gov/.

The primary election in West Virginia is May 14, followed by the general election Nov. 5.
