Cullen, (Zuspan) Moya, Roush, Tully named to Wahama Athletic Hall of Fame

Inductees to be introduced during Friday’s game

MASON — The Wahama High School Athletic Hall of Fame has announced the Hall of Fame inductees for 2023.  They are Coach Tom Cullen, Kelsey Ann (Zuspan) Moya, Kane McKinnley Roush and Amber Tully.

The inductees will be introduced during half time at the Hall of Fame game on Friday, Sept. 1, when the Wahama White Falcons will take on Doddridge County at Bachtel Stadium. The inductees will be honored the following day at the annual Hall of Fame Banquet.

Coach Tom Cullen coached at Wahama High School for 39 years. His coaching career included seventh and eighth grade football from 1981 to 1987; varsity assistant baseball from 1980 to 2004; and head baseball coach from 2004 to 2017. He was also the freshman basketball coach from 1979 to 1980, and varsity assistant and head junior varsity coach from 1980 to 1985. As the wrestling head coach from 2001 to 2006, he had nine state qualifiers, one third place finisher, and four finishing sixth place.

The coach compiled a 249-138 record as head baseball coach with nine sectional titles, two regional titles and two state championships. During his baseball tenure as assistant and head coach, he was involved in 23 titles, five regional titles, and four state championships. As an assistant and head coach, Cullen was involved in five state championships and one runner-up.

Cullen was the Tri Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2010, the USA Today Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2016, and National Federation of High School Sports Regional/Sectional Coach of the Year in 2016.

A member of the West Virginia University Wrestling Team in 1974-75, upon graduation he taught physical education at Letart, Hartford, West Columbia and Mason elementary schools from 1982 to 2005. He was the physical education and driver education teacher at Wahama from 2005 to 2017.

Cullen is a deacon at Fairview Bible Church.

Kelsey Ann (Zuspan) Moya is a 2013 graduate of Wahama, where she achieved a 4.0 grade point average and earned nine varsity letters: four for basketball, two for volleyball, and three for track. She participated in band for two years at Wahama and is a lifelong 4-H member, as well as FFA member.

Moya was a member of the 4×2 relay team that holds the current Wahama school record. She was a West Virginia State Champion in the 100 and 200 meters in 2011, as well as placing fourth in the state in the 400 meter the same year. Moya was All TVC Track in 2011 and 2012, and All TVC Hocking Division Volleyball in 2011 and 2012.

She participated in track at West Virginia Wesleyan College in 2013 and 2014, when the school was conference champions. Moya participated in Junior Olympics AAU Eastern Michigan University in 2013.

Moya holds a Bachelor of Arts Regents Degree from Marshall University, has taught at Wahama for two years, and is the assistant track coach.

Kane McKinley Roush graduated from Wahama High School in 2014, and earned 12 varsity letters: four in football, four in wrestling, three in baseball, and one in track.

Roush’s football statistics include: 2011 (Sophomore Year), 38 carries, 928 yards, 15 TDs; 2012 (Junior Year) 161 carries, 1803 yards, 30 TDs; and 2013 (Senior Year) 128 carries, 1673 yards, 32 receptions, 2 TDs on interception return, 8 TDs on kick returns, 48 total TDs.

He is the Wahama all time leading scorer and rusher and has had the most touchdowns in school history. In 2012, his football honors included WVSSAC MVP of Super Six Football State Championship, Class A State Champions, First Team All-State, TVC All-Conference, Matheny Motor Award as Player of the Game. His 2013 football honors wereTVC All Conference Running, First Team All State Running Back, Gridiron Glory Player of the Year, MVP of North/South Football Game.

In wrestling, Roush was the West Virginia State A-AA Runner Up his sophomore year and Regional 4 Runner up in the 140-pound class. His junior year, he won third place in the WV State Tournament, TVC Champion in 160-pound class, and A-AA Region 4 fourth place in 152-pound class. His senior year, he was the Jackson County Invitational Champion 160-pound class, Williamstown Bob Zide Wrestling Rumble Champion 170-pound class, Class A-AA Region 4 Champion 160-pound class, Magnolia Wrestling Tournament Champion 170-pound class and Most Outstanding Wrestler, and TVC Most Valuable Wrestler.

Roush was named TVC All Conference in 2013 in baseball, and TVC All Conference in track in 2011. He continued his football career at the University of Charleston, where he graduated with a Business and Marketing Degree. He was a mentor to many youth by helping with practices, coaching, umpiring, and serving as a referee for little league.

Amber Tully graduated from Wahama in 2009, and earned seven varsity letters, four in basketball and three in softball. She finished her basketball career at Wahama with 1,456 points She was named All-State Honorable Mention in basketball as a sophomore, and First Team All-State Basketball as a senior. She is the only two-time First Team All-State Basketball Player in Mason County.

Tully finished her college basketball career with 1,105 points, 425 rebounds, 110 assists, 161 steals and 43 blocks. She was named All Tournament in 2013. Tully was also named USCAA All-American Honorable Mention.
