MASON — Residents interested in Town of Mason happenings will soon have two opportunities to get involved, Mayor Kristopher Clark announced at the most recent council meeting.

On Monday at 5:30 p.m., an “events” committee will hold its inaugural meeting. Clark said the meeting is open to anyone, not just Mason residents.

He said the meeting will be for those who want to take part as a volunteer at the town’s many activities, or those who have ideas for new events. Although there are several smaller festivities, Mason’s annual larger events include the Bike Rodeo, Fourth of July, Harvest Festival, and Christmas in the Park. A dedicated group of volunteers is essential to make each event successful, Clark said.

The second opportunity for the public to get involved will be Monday, July 24 at 5:30 p.m., when a “beautification” committee will be formed. This group will form ideas and initiate ways to keep the town clean and enhance its landscape.

Both meetings will take place at the town hall.

It was the first regular council meeting for members of the new administration, who took office July 1. The mayor appointed council committees as: Jill Nelson, parks and recreation; Becky Pearson, streets; Steve Ohlinger, maintenance; Sarah Stover, permits; and Mike Zirkle, beautification.

Also during the meeting, the council:

Appointed Darlene Roach as town treasurer;

Discussed updates on the Clifton water upgrade project;

Approved the fabrication of a new trash shoot at the wastewater plant;

Heard from senior citizens, who voiced concerns over the senior center; and,

Agreed to purchase a field sign for fall sports at Wahama High School.

The council agreed to hold regular meetings for the term 2023-2025 on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
