LETART, W.Va. — Six fire departments responded to a structure fire at a residence in Letart, W.Va. on Thursday morning.
According to a press release sent on behalf of the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department by Public Information Officer Matt Gregg, at approximately 7:35 a.m. this morning, the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire on Radical Lane in Letart. Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames emanating from the attic of the residence.

“In a concerted effort to control and extinguish the blaze, the New Haven Fire Department requested mutual aid from the neighboring Mason, Cottageville, Ravenswood, Flatrock, and Point Pleasant Fire Departments,” stated the press release. “All departments responded promptly, contributing to the collaborative firefighting effort and ensuring the safety of the local community.”

“Through the efficient and effective teamwork of these combined forces, the fire was successfully extinguished, minimizing further potential damage to the structure and surrounding area,” further stated the press release.
According to Gregg, there were no injuries and the occupants of the residence were reportedly not home at the time of the fire. Gregg also stated there were reports to the fire department that possibly a family member in the vicinity spotted the fire and sprayed it with a hose until firefighters arrived. The home appeared to sustain heavy damage, Gregg added.
The press release continued: “Upon preliminary investigation, it has been determined that the fire originated in the attic of the structure. The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious in nature.
“The New Haven Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the Mason, Cottageville, Ravenswood, Flatrock, and Point Pleasant Fire Departments for their rapid response and invaluable assistance during this incident.”

The press release also contained a separate, general, public service announcement on what was described by Gregg as “preparedness and prevention measures.”
“We would also like to remind all residents of the importance of regular home inspections and the use of smoke alarms, which can be instrumental in preventing incidents.”
