MASON, W.Va. — A parade, activities, music and fireworks are all on tap for the Town of Mason’s Independence Day celebration on Saturday.
Events will begin with the parade at 4:30 p.m., starting at Wahama High School. Floats, golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles, and other entries are encouraged to enter there. Walking units, bicycles, and others who wish can join in the parade at Anderson Street near the fire department. There will be a “no siren” zone from Center to Pomeroy Street and the parade will end at the Mason Park.
“This year our grand marshal for the parade will be Bentely Neal,” said Mason Mayor Kristopher Clark. “Bentely has been a key driver in fundraising for the Mason County Veterans Memorial, which will be breaking ground soon.”
Clark continued, “Bentely has raised over $4,000 for the project. His love for the veterans, our country, and our community makes him an easy choice to lead our parade. Bentely is an outstanding young man and a valuable member of our community.”

Once at the park, there will be activities for various ages. The Foam Garage of Hurricane will have two foam cannons for children to play in from 5 to 7 p.m. This will be a new attraction for the town’s events. A water slide will also be at the park from 5 to 9 p.m., and children are urged to wear clothes for getting wet.
Bingo will be set up with cash prizes for the winners. There will be vendors, as well as two food trucks, Broken Bread Catering and Picnic’s Barbecue.
“At 7 p.m., we have a local music talent, Bretton Lee and the Memphis Rundown performing,” Clark said. “Bretton is becoming well-known across the area, and I am sure he will put on a great show.”
The climax of the celebration will come at 10 p.m. with the Big Bend Area Fireworks show.
“I am thrilled to partner with Pomeroy once again (for the fireworks show),” said Clark. “It’s a partnership that greatly benefits both communities. We share riverfront with each other, our park is directly across from their levee, and it is a cool sight to see both sides of the river packed with people celebrating.”
The mayor promised the fireworks will be even bigger and better this year.
“Partnering with Pomeroy allows us to fully coordinate our celebrations together and end the night of celebration with a fireworks display that can be seen from the park, and the majority of residents in Mason can see it from their homes,” Clark concluded.
