Welcome to Mason County Extra Edition, an online community news magazine.
This space was created to highlight the people, places, events, and local culture relevant to Mason County, West Virginia.
This grassroots project will provide free, community news articles and features compiled entirely by volunteers. This is also a work in progress as we navigate the interests of local readers, and how content is delivered.
For now, visitors to Mason County Extra Edition will find feature stories and photos on its homepage, as well as a community calendar area (events, meetings, etc.), on the sidebar. Mason County Extra Edition is also on Facebook, allowing readers an additional opportunity to access and share our original, copyrighted content for personal use on social media. Please contact us for commercial use, or any rebroadcasting of our original content.
Mason County Extra Edition is currently at its “humble beginnings,” and if it grows remains unclear, but it certainly has begun. At this time, the amount and frequency of content created by our volunteers is yet to be determined, and will greatly depend on demand, as well as the availability of those volunteers who are local writers native to Mason County.
To be clear, this is not a newspaper, or website for a television news station. Think of this as your community’s magazine with familiar faces and destinations on “pages” which all fit the community news genre in general. At this time, Mason County Extra Edition will not be posting obituaries or covering certain “hard news” stories, such as court cases and crime – these newsworthy items, and others, can already be accessed via existing local, regional, and state media.
However long this journey is, thanks for stopping by. If you have an idea for a community news story, or would like to submit an item for the community calendar for possible coverage, email us at masoncountyextraedition@gmail.com or fill out the “contact us” form on the sidebar.
This project is something new (and hopefully unique) in a place familiar to us all, here in Mason County. And remember, it’s OK to be “Extra.”
